Annie Carol Davis Pennix was born to James & Odessa Warren Davis in Alamance County, North Carolina on February 17, 1933. Annie graduated from Jordan Sellars High School. After high school Annie attended Fisk University for a while, then switched colleges to play in the marching band & graduate from NC A&T State University. Her first teaching job was Pleasant Grove Elementary then Graham High School.

 

Annie retired after teaching Home Economics for 29 years at Western Alamance High School. She loved to play Bid Whist with her cousin Ann on Friday nights. Her second love was bowling where she always had her children involved on Saturday mornings in the youth leagues & even had her grandchildren doing the same; traveling around the country in tournaments until she retired from bowling at 84 in 2017.

 

Annie was a faithful member of St Matthews in Burlington, NC until moving to Greensboro and becoming a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ where she loved to sing in the choir & be of service whenever she could.

 

Annie leaves memories to her children: Joretta Pennix Hardcastle (Alfred Bernard), Henry Rufus “Ricky” Pennix II (Vanessa), & Lori Pennix Jennings Komlavi (Kekeli); 6 grandchildren (Frankie “LeVard” Clayton, Shamika “Miik” Jennings, Christopher Pennix, Shawn Jennings, David Pennix, & Sheree Jennings). 10 great grandchildren (Nicole Pennix, Lauren Pennix, Preston Shawn Ingold, ZoAlakee Sedjro, Genesis Pennix, Dakota Pennix, Harmony Pennix, Zomir Jennings, Imani Pennix, & Zeke Jennings). As well as her older brother James Calvin “JC” Davis of Columbus, OH, baby sister Sondra “Peaches” Davis of Burlington, NC, several nieces and nephews and other relatives and dear friends.
