Zoilo C. Serrano of Albuquerque, died Tuesday morning, January 17, 2017 at his home, with his family at his bedside. He was 94 years old.
Mr. Serrano was born on September 20, 1922 in Santa Rosa to the home of Simon and Petra (Chavez) Serrano. He grew up and attended school in Santa Rosa. During World War II, Zoilo served in the U.S. Army from September 27, 1940 to July 3, 1945. Upon returning from the war, Mr. Serrano married Victoria (Vickie) Garcia at Saint Francis Cathedral in Santa Fe, NM on September 20, 1945.
Mr. Serrano worked for Moise Mercantile for several years. He owned his own business, Serrano’s Mobil Service from June 1963 to September 1972. Mr. Serrano managed and then owned and operated The Adobe Inn in Santa Rosa from 1972 to 1983.
Mr. Serrano is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Zulema Nichols and Eslinda Sanchez; and five brothers, Luciano, Luis, Frank, Simon and Adolph. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
He is survived by his wife, Vickie; two sons, Martin Serrano of Albuquerque; Gerald Serrano and wife, Sheri of Las Vegas, NV; three daughters, Ynez St. Pierre, Augusta Serrano, and Jacqueline Via and husband, Dennis, all of Albuquerque; two brothers, Charles Serrano and Robert Serrano, both of Santa Rosa; one sister, Alice Romo of Coppell, TX; three granddaughters, Stacy Lynn Canales and husband, Max of Jacksonville, NC, Shannon Hartstrom and husband, Jason of Las Vegas, NV, and Yvette Monique Lucero and husband, David of Albuquerque; three grandsons, Josh Serrano and wife, Domonique of Las Vegas, NV, Brock Rivera and wife, Michelle of Rio Rancho, NM, and Bruce Rivera and wife, Mary of Phoenix, AZ; seven great-grandchildren, Mikayla Haeleigh and Isaiah Rivera, Madison Canales, Skylar and Benjamin Rivera and Gavin and Presley Hartstrom; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Serrano will be missed by ALL.
