Zenna Dee Stockton Cox, age 80, passed away December 11, 2020 in Andrews, Texas.  She entered this world on March 20, 1940, in Hobbs New Mexico, to Charley and Ethel (Jones) Stockton.  She graduated from Hobbs High School in 1958 and married her lifelong love, Martin “M.T.” Cox on May 31, 1958, at First Christian Church.

Zenna was a devoted lifetime member of First Christian Church, where she served in a multitude of distinct roles.  She dedicated 30 years of her life to the children of Hobbs Schools. Zenna’s last 15 years of service were as the Mills Elementary Librarian where she instilled her love of books with her students. She retired from Hobbs Schools in 2007.

Zenna was a sports enthusiast, coaching children in softball and basketball.  She enjoyed all sports, especially watching the Hobbs Eagles and Lady Eagles.  Zenna touched many people’s lives, trying to count the number would be as fruitless as counting grains of sand.  Whether you called her Mom, Auntie, Gram, Mrs. Cox or Coach, she always wanted the best for you.  Those who knew her knew how much she loved her Dr. Peppers, the color red, but disliked having her picture taken.

She is survived by her daughters, Carla Hedrick and Lisa (Jim) Kemp; daughter-in-law, Irma Cox, 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; brother Rex Stockton; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends.

Zenna was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four sisters Glenda Pixley, Sherry Long, Charlene Garing, Nelda Howl and brother Roy Stockton, infant daughter Carrie Cox, and great-grandson James David Hedrick.
