Zella J. Carter, 95, of Peru passed away at 9:35 PM on January 9, 2016 in Illinois Valley Community Hospital.
Mrs. Carter was born May 21, 1920 in La Salle to George and Gertrude (Wallis) Malone. She graduated from La Salle-Peru Township High School. She attended and graduated from Brown’s Business College in Peoria. She married Alfred E. Carter 1939, and he was the love of her life. She was a homemaker but also worked at Westclox during the war, Levine Fruit & Produce, and lastly at Montgomery Wards. Mrs. Carter loved reading and shopping. She was an extensive world traveler with her family. She enjoyed going on cruises wearing her gold shoes and matching gold purses. She often played bridge and euchre. She was a kind and generous woman.
Mrs. Carter is survived by two sons Alfred “Brad” Carter and David (Jean) Carter both of Peru, one daughter Janis (Franz) Devantier of La Salle, 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 1 great- great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred on May 8, 1998, one daughter Gail Barajas on November 23, 2013, a brother, and two sisters.
