Wynn S. Andersen
BRIGHAM CITY – Dr. Wynn Severine Andersen, 97 passed away on Wednesday, February 19,
2014 with his loving family by his side.
Wynn was born on November 18, 1916 in Brigham City, Utah a son of Levi Severine and Millie
Caroline Reeder Andersen.
He graduated from Box Elder High School. Wynn attended Utah State University for two years
then the University of Southern California Dental School and the University of California, San
Francisco Dental School specializing in Orthodontics.
Wynn served a mission in East Germany during the Hitler Era. He finished his mission in
Minnesota after the start of WWII. Wynn lived in Washington D.C. and Los Angeles during the
war as a German translator for the FBI. He served his country in the Korean Conflict as part of
the Navy V-12 program, Dental Corps. He also served in the Army Dental Corps in France.
Wynn married his sweetheart Evelyn Porter Sutton on January 17, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple,
they were married for 59 years.
He practiced as an orthodontist in Brigham City for 38 years. Wynn retired at the age of 75
being the oldest practicing orthodontist in the western United States. He had a long and
distinguished career in his chosen business and civic activities. Wynn professionally served in
local, district, state and national dental and orthodontic organizations.
Wynn enjoyed gardening especially roses. His front yard in the spring was a popular place for
people to drive by and enjoy the beauty and fragrance. He also loved horses, and spent hours
with his them and taught most of his grandchildren how to ride. He loved riding his horses in the
Peach Days Parade and driving the pony cart with his children and grandchildren in the jr.
parade. He was an avid tinkerer and inventor and spent hours at the work shop wiring together
ideas. He loved tennis and played actively into his 80’s. He loved the mountains and camping in
Devil’s Gate Valley by the beaver ponds.
to teach his children their names. He was a world traveler and enjoyed planning vacations for the whole family including an epic 9 week tour of Europe.
Wynn was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for his entire life. He grew
up in the Brigham City 3rd Ward and served faithfully in many capacities including as a
counselor in bishoprics and the Brigham City Stake presidency.
Surviving are his wife Evelyn, children: Carol Ann (Richard) Himberger; Pamela Andersen
(Diana, Aldena) Wynn Scott (Tina) Andersen; William Clark (Susan) Andersen; 14
grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren.
