Winston E. Zipsie, 81, formerly of Dakota, Freeport died Sunday, January 8, 2012 at his home in Sterling.
Born September 7, 1930 in Winslow he was the son of Floyd and Edith (Sweeney) Zipsie. He was a 1950 graduate of Dakota High School. Winston was a veteran of U.S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict from 1952 until 1954. On February 27, 1954 he and Joyce L. Wise were united in marriage at the Dakota Community Presbyterian Church. She preceded him in death on December 6, 1994. His occupations included farming, cheese maker, truck driver, school bus driver and custodian. Past memberships included Dakota Community Presbyterian Church and Dakota Lions Club.
Surviving are three daughters Diane (Edward) Weber of Orangeville, Karen (Jack) Beggs of Sterling, Carol DeNoyer of Apple River; two sons Allan (Margaret) Zipsie of Grand Blanc, MI, and Kevin (Patricia) Zipsie of Darien; 9 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 10 step great grandchildren. Two brothers Alvin (Josephine) Zipsie of Baraboo, WI, Wayne (Norma) Zipsie of Marion; sisters-in-law Dorothy (David) Phillips, Nancy Wise; brothers-in-laws Ivan (Francis) Wise, Lester (Judy) Wise, Donald (Elaine) Wise, Carl (Sharon) Wise. Preceding him in death were his parents Floyd and Edith Zipsie, wife Joyce, in-laws Merle and LaVerne (Yeoman) Wise, infant sister Dorothy Zipsie, sons-in-law Jeffrey Disher, John DeNoyer: brother-in-law Gerald Wise, nephew Brien Wise and step great grandson Dustin Disher.
