October 13,1937 in Chariton, Iowa. Winfield was born and raised in Lucas County on the family home place. He went to Norwood school until eighth grade then graduated from Chariton High School with the class of 1956. Growing up, Winfield dedicated his life to farming, alongside his father and brother Harold D, which was his life time best friend. Through the years, they strived to produce the best corn and bean crops and can’t forget the hay crop to get enough small square bales to fill the hay mow. Over the years they’ve had a cow/calf operation, which was his favorite, feedlot finishing cattle they raised and purchased, sheep, swine, and Belgian horses. In 1960, Winfield enlisted in the National Guard and served until 1966 when he was honorably discharged. He was actively involved in the community and was elected as the Ottercreek Township clerk in 1978, serving as the clerk for 36 years. He also served on the FSA Board in Lucas County. The Lord always came first in his life.
