Willis S. “Smitty” Hamilton, 87 of Champaign formerly of Centralia, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2014 in Carle Foundation Hospital in Champaign. He was born in Broadlands, Illinois on October 20, 1926, the son of Ogle and Esther (Maxwell) Hamilton. He married Evelyne Fuss on September 25, 1953 in Salem and she preceded him in death on April 8, 2014.
He is survived by a son, Art Hamilton of Mahomet, Illinois; a daughter, Marion McNamara and husband Dan of Barrington, Illinois; three grandchildren: Alison Kaminski and husband Steve of Alsip, Illinois, Bradley Hamilton and Jacob Hamilton both of Mahomet, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. Mr. Hamilton enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 4, 1944 and served in the Philippines, Korea and Germany until June of 1953. He retired from the Illinois Central Railroad as a conductor and lived in Centralia since 1965. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Centralia and V.F.W. Post 2055.
