Willis Henry Eley, 93, died peacefully on his family farm on January 3, 2024. Willis was born on August 24, 1930 in Nansemond County to the late, James Henry Eley and Iola Gomer Eley. Willis was married to his loving wife, Shirley Carter Eley, for 56 years before she passed on May 16, 2007. Willis was predeceased by his only sister, Clarice Eley Potter.Willis lived his entire life on his farm where he loved being outdoors, farming the land or gardening, which was his passion later in life. He retired from Hercules, Inc. after 40 years of service. Willis was a lifelong member of Holy Neck Christian Church where he considered the members his extended family, serving as a Deacon, member of the Men’s Fellowship, Choir member, Building Grounds Chairman or any other position where he was needed. Willis was also a charter member of the Holy Neck Ruritan Club.Willis was devoted to his family and is survived by his daughters, Wanda Eley Crumpler (Ronnie) and Susan Eley Sims (Chuck). Known as “Bee” to his 5 granddaughters, he is survived by Lindsey, Amanda (Steven), Brooke (Josh), Stephanie and Natalie as well as 9 great grandchildren, Alexis, Abigail, Logan, Kruze, Charleigh, Ryleigh, Keeley, Aiden and Chase. Willis is also survived by his sister-in-law, Mabel Wesner; nephew, Kenneth; niece, Miriam and several great nephews and nieces.
