Willis P. “Willie” Hartenburg, 89, of Rapid River, passed away Friday morning February 17, 2017 at the Christian Park Village in Escanaba where he currently was residing.

Willie was born July 30, 1927 in Midland County, MI the son of Carl and Blanche (Wing) Hartenburg. He was raised in Midland, MI where he played offense and defense for the football team for Breckenridge High School. Following graduation in 1946, Willie attended technical school to become a pipefitter.

Willie moved to Rapid River in 1970 from Wheeler, MI and he worked construction throughout the Midwest as a Steamfitter, retiring in 1990.

Willie was united in marriage to Helen “Mac” on July 23, 1983. She preceded him in death in June of 2001. Willie was a member of the Manistique Moose Lodge and the Stonington Booster Club. He enjoyed building houses and furniture in his workshop at home. Willie was infatuated with wildlife, he loved feeding his deer, turkeys and pheasant. He also enjoyed his fellowship with his friends.

Survivors include:
Daughter: Jeanne Bolton of Breckenridge, MI

Step Sons: William (Arlene) Marohnic of Gladstone and Chuck Purcell of Indiana

Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.

In addition to his parents and wife, his son, David in 1967, brothers, Cecil, Lloyd, Max, Donald and sister, Edna May preceded Willie in death.
