Willie D Stone, age 66, of Tumbling Shoals, Arkansas, passed away on November 30, 2017.  He was born August 19, 1951 in Shiloh, Arkansas.  He graduated Westside Greers Ferry in 1969 and married Evangeline Simpson on August 7, 1970.  He was a faithful husband, loving father, awesome “Paps” to his grandchildren, and deacon at Chastain Chapel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elvin Stone and Maudean Hooten, and four brothers: Elvis Jay, Earnest, Larry, and Junior Stone.

Willie is survived by his wife of 47 years, Evangeline; his children: Casey (Felicia) Stone, Tamara (Mark) Engle, and Cory Stone; his grandchildren: Shelby (Brandon) Boos, Abby Stone, Will Engle, Sophie Stone, Anna Engle, Sarah Engle, and Ben Engle; his siblings: Thelma Gray, Jackie (Juanita) Stone, Johnny (Debbie) Stone, Teresa (Tony) Stringfellow, and Anita (Kevin) Hawkins; scores of nephews and nieces; and many friends.

Relationships and service were at the center of who he was.  To know him was to love him and become an instant friend.  When he wasn’t serving one of his church or favorite charities he was serving as justice of the peace or on the board of the fire or water departments.  He set the bar high.  The legend of Peppermint Paps will never be forgotten by his grandkids and all their friends.

After retirement his office was on the lake, preferably facing East to catch the sunrise.  A great day for him was a morning limit of crappie, lunch with a friend, and catching a sunset in the deer blind.

Dad built houses all over Cleburne County and churches in Jamaica and Brazil.  Now he’s living in a house he didn’t build, but rather one that was uniquely built for him.
