William Van Thornhill, 79, of Renick, MO, died December 15, 2016, at his home. He had been in failing health. Williams was born June 29, 1937, in North Kansas City, MO, to Jack and Margaret (McClain) Thornhill.
William retired from the military in 1985. He served ten years in the U.S. Air Force and ten years in the U.S. Navy serving in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He was very generous with the charities that he supported.
Survivors include his children, Teri Croswhite and husband Paul of Castaic, CA, Roger Thornhill and wife Lisa of Santa Maria, CA, Kathy Adie and husband Robert of Henderson, NV, Sandi Paffen and husband Billy of Santa Monica, CA, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a brother Jack Thornhill and wife Anna of Linn Creek, MO, a sister Shirley Biddle and husband Charlie of Renick, nieces including Marsha Kimbrough, who took care of him, nephews, a brother-in-law Everett Durbin of Clark, other relatives, and friends.
William was preceded in death by his wife Merle, his parents, and two sisters, Judy Durbin and Maggie Thornhill.
He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, dancing, collecting memorabilia, and crossword and jigsaw puzzles.
