WADSWORTH — William J. Starkey, 85, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at Altercare in Wadsworth. Bill was born in Hannibal, Ohio, Oct. 6, 1932 and had lived most of his life in Creston, Seville and Wadsworth.
He was a 1950 graduate of Creston High School and a 1956 graduate of Bowling Green State University with a degree in industrial arts. He was drafted into the U.S. Army from 1952-54 and served in Germany. He continued his military service with the Army National Guard until 1977 and officially retired in 1992.
Bill married the love of his life, a beautiful Seville High School majorette, Garnet F. Jarvis, on July 13, 1953. Together they raised four children and have been blessed with 11 grandchildrean and 18-plus great-grandchildren. They are: Brad and Bette Lou with Nate, Amy, Kaylen, Sam and Aaron Starkey, Pat, Liz, Callum, Cora and Oliver Starkey, Emily and Carson Starkey. Lynn and Bob Ramsay with Shannon, Nic, Reagan and Liam Wade, Max, Lindsay, Mallory, Seth, Cassidy and Baby Boy Ramsay, Hally, Josh, Ryker and Rayde Schoby. Bruce and Marilynn with Gwynn, Zach, Ella and Mason Lattimer, Ethan Starkey and Jillian Starkey. Brian and Tammy with Valerie, Jake, Zoey and Aria Schwartfigure and Quinn Starkey.
Also surviving are a sister, Joan (Mel) Winkler; a brother, Ray; and a half-sister, Sarah. In addition he leaves his “family” of dear friends at the First Baptist Church as well as hundreds of Jarvii. His parents, Harold and Dora (Talbot); a brother, Dale; in-laws, Woodie and Bernice Jarvis, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws and friends preceded him to heaven.
Bill held many varied jobs throughout his life in trucking, teaching and sales until starting his cabinet business, 4B Wood in Seville. He was a master wood craftsman, a handyman extraordinaire, a music lover, an avid fisherman and a killer (bid the big one!) card player.
