William Ralph Lawrence, 92, of Clyde, died at The Gardens of Clyde on Saturday, October 25, 2014.
Mr. Lawrence was born in Fremont on February 21, 1922. He graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1940.
He had served in the US Army in WWII. He was the first executive Officer of the 437 MP BN in Ohio. He attended US Army Armor School; US Army Military Police School, in Fort Gordon, Ga; US Army Artillery & Missile School in Fort sill, Ok. Mr. Lawrence also graduated for the US Army Command & General Staff College. He was awarded the Dept. of Army Commendation Medal.
From 1942 through 1975, Mr. Lawrence was in active service. For 33 years in the National Guard, having been in charge of the Clyde Armory and then the Armory in Toledo. He retired as a Lt. Col. Until 1982, he was in inactive service.
Other occupations included, being a caddy in Fremont; the A&P Store; selling insurance; Mid State Truck Dispatcher; and then retiring from Green Hills County Club following ten years of service.
Bill had two passions: golf and Clyde Girls Basketball.
On February 15, 1947, he married Rhonda Tea. She preceded him in death on April 14, 2004.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Bedford, Fremont; a son, Michael (Vickie) Lawrence, Clyde; two grandchildren, Kimberly Lawrence and Quinn Lawrence.
Mr. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Lawrence and Marian (Fought) Lawrence Baskey and a brother, Robert Lawrence.
