William Perry Free passed away on May 2, 2023 at Moses Cone Hospital after a brief illness.  He was born on June 25, 1937 to the late James “Albert Free Sr. and Eula Nurine Perry Free of Guilford County.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Phillip Free and sister, Dorthea Carter. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife Kay Garner Free of the home, a loving daughter Stephanie Gowens of Greensboro, Sons, Dexter Brower (Debora) and Derrick Brower of Burlington and Darin Brower (Laura) of Blanch.  2nd Daughter Regina Guess of Pittsboro and brother Elder James Albert Free Jr, along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, godsons, family and friends.

William was a lifelong member of the East Market Street Seventh Day Adventist Church, where he attended regularly for as long as he was able.

He retired from Norfolk Southern Railway after 40 years where he made lifelong friends. He loved cars and enjoyed working at Majestic Car Care where he did body work.  He also picked up pilots from the airport and drove them to their hotels. William wasn’t a man that liked to sit around.  He was always doing something.  He was an advocate for Message Magazine and Southern Tidings and made sure that his family received these books, even if he had to deliver them himself.  He had a very gentle spirit and always had an encouraging word for everyone that he came in contact with. He was an outstanding caregiver to his wife, Kay as she was the love of his life.

William will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
