William P. “Bill” Chester, 63, of Elkhart, passed away Thursday morning, Feb. 12, in his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Bill was born Feb. 3, 1952, in Indianapolis, to the late Roger H. and Mary Jane Chester.

In addition to his parents, a brother, John R. Chester, preceded him in death.

Bill is survived by his brothers, David E. (Cynthia) Chester of Rome, Ga., and Steven E. Chester of Auburndale, Fla.; longtime companion Kim Whisler; her children, Jim and Mary Whisler; favorite nephew Jeff Chester and fiancée Sarah Boyd of Atlanta; two nieces, Lindsay (Scott) White and Lauren (Andrew) Thomas of Lakeland, Fla.; and many beloved cousins.

Bill formerly worked for Shelter Components and then Kevco.

He was a 1970 graduate of Elkhart High School and attended college in Arizona and at Indiana University Bloomington.

Bill was a longtime bass player and musician in the Elkhart area playing with many local bands, including Retribution, Babelfish, Grey Horse Band, and for more than 15 years, with The SL4. Bill loved music and doing crossword puzzles.
