William Matthew “Bill” McCarty, 93, Anderson, died January 7, 2010 at St. John’s Health System after a brief illness. He was born July 24, 1916 in Anderson the son of Sarah Preston & George Patrick McCarty.

William married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Chasteen, on July 26, 1937. The couple marched together at their Anderson High School Commencement in 1935. The McCartys were married for 69 years, and they enjoyed many summers at their Minnesota Lake Cottage.

William was in the Navy during World War II and spent time in the South Pacific Theater. William worked at Delco Remy Division of General Motors for 39 years and retired as a forman in 1974. He was a long time member of Whetstone Christian Church.

William was a member of the Federated Craft Club #84 and a member of the Madison County Masonic Lodge #44 F. & A.M. His hobbies include stained glass, woodworking, and fishing.

He is survived by his sons, Larry & wife Marilyn and Roger & wife Becky. In addition, there are five grandchildren, Kathy Mayes & husband Ryan of Fishers, Jennifer Givens & husband Brent of Fishers, Will McCarty and Ben Lamey of Indianapolis, Sarah Dalton & husband Chris of West Lafayette and Audrey McCarty of Pendleton; four great-grandchildren, Braden and Jenna Givens and Caleb and Joshua Mayes, all of Fishers; and sister, Norma Jean Perry of Anderson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Chasteen McCarty; his parents, George & Sarah McCarty as well as a sister, Edna Sample.
