William LeVan Greene died Sunday, November 16, 2008, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC at the age of 71. Born May 20, 1937 to Elmer F. Greene and Helen (LeVan) Greene in Allentown, PA. Bill was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is remembered for his sense of humor, genuine interest in others, and his enjoyment of life. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Gail (Moyer) Greene; son Kevin Greene and wife Kim of Richmond, VA and grandchildren Emma and Coleman; daughter Kellie Greene Wagner, and husband Craig of Chapel Hill, NC and grandchildren Calvin, Maley and William. Bill graduated with the class of ’55 at Fountain Hill High School. He served as an 8 year member of the Naval Reserves. As a jazz trumpet player, Bill played in various dance bands including serving as band leader of the Nite Notes in the late 1950’s. He went on to complete studies at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia: College of Pharmacy, B.S. ’61. Bill was a pharmacist and owner of Greene’s Pharmacy in Allentown, PA for 38 years until his retirement in 2000. Over the span of his career, Bill served as President of the Lehigh Valley Pharmacists Association, Pharmacy Advisor to the PACE Program, President of the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association, and Chairman of the Department of Public Welfare Health Care Advisory Committee. His awards include the Merk, Sharp and Dohme Award, the George Maggio Award and the Bowl of Hygea. He was an avid baseball fan, supportive of the interests of his grandchildren, and enjoyed traveling with family and friends.
