WINSTED -SMYTH – William L. Smyth, 86, passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2007 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of the late Janet (Ferrer) Smyth who passed away in 1996. Born January 8, 1921 in Londonderry, Northern Ireland; son of the late William and Elizabeth (Lyon) Smyth. He came to this country as an infant and grew up in MA and CT. He was a licensed Land Surveyor and had been employed by the Metropolitian District Commission for 40 years, retiring in 1980. He served in the United States Army during World War II as a Sargent in AA Operations and landed in Normandy on D Day. He received the British Military Medal. He had been active in Civil Air Patrol and was a member of the American Legion and the CT Soc. of Civil Engineers. He is survived by two sons, W. Alan Smyth of New Hartford and Terence Smyth of Winsted; a daughter, Heather Cappabianca of Winsted; a brother, Hugh Smyth of CA; a sister, Esther Fay of IL; and 8 grandchildren.
