William John Starosta, 75, passed away unexpectedly on February 2, 2021. He was the devoted husband of Judith (Huber) Starosta; they were looking forward to their fiftieth wedding anniversary this November. Born in Nesquehoning, Pennsylvania on June 17, 1945 (famously in his Aunt Mary’s bedroom), William came to Bethlehem in the late 1960’s and started his family. And while Bethlehem was his home, he maintained his devotion to his hometown and was eager to talk about his Nesquehoning roots. William was a part of the Lehigh Valley financial community, working at banks in Bethlehem, Nazareth, and Easton. He ended his career at the Allentown YMCA, helping to strengthen the institution for the community. His Byzantine Catholic faith was consistent in his life, and he was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church in Bethlehem.
William’s greatest role, however, was a father to Kristin Starosta and Jennifer Starosta (Wes Payne), and a grandfather to Samantha Gunn, Deacon Starosta, and Damian Starosta. He was a devoted “Pop” to his grandchildren, and both marveled and shook his head at their personalities and energy. And having spent over forty years in the same neighborhood, he also enjoyed being a part of the lives of the neighborhood kids who moved in next door. As a dad and husband, William was part of the family’s love of animals and was a rescue partner throughout the years. He was a life-long Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Phillies fan, through both the good seasons and the bad.
Survivors: In addition to his wife, daughters, and grandchildren, William is survived by his sister Joan Trautlein (Joseph); brother Robert Starosta; his aunt, Anna Shoemaker; his many nieces, nephews, and God children, and many cousins who he considered to be his siblings. He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna, his father, William, and his stepmother Ethel.
