William John Briddick, 86, formerly of Oglesby and Webster Park, died Dec. 16, 2006 at Pleasant View Luther Home, Ottawa, where he has resided for the last 4 months.

He was born Sept. 13, 1920 in Cherry, Il. to Robert and Barbara (Rogers) Briddick. He married Wanda Naomi Harmon on Feb. 14, 1941, in Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII in the European Theatre of Operations, with the 414th Infantry Unit, 104th Timber Wolf Division, serving in Northern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe and participated in the liberation of Nordhausen Concentration Camp. He was a heavy equipment mechanic for Marquette Cement Company. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Oglesby, where he had served as a church trustee, and United Cement, Lime and Gypsum Workers of America Local.

He is survived by two sons, John (Beverly) Briddick of Oglesby, Scott Briddick, of rural Tonica, 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and a sister Grace Claudnic, of Oglesby.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dec. 20, 1983, a son William Briddick and 8 brothers and sisters.
