William J. Bullet Starck III died Sunday morning August 21, 2005 in his residence, after a short illness. He was born June 19, 1923 in Benton Harbor, Michigan to William and Lillian (Barrett) Starck with two sisters, Margaret and Rosemary, all of whom preceded him in death.

He graduated from St. Johns High School, Benton Harbor, Michigan, where he excelled in both football and basketball, and won all-state recognition. He attended Purdue University, where he played football and later served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Bill was a Bombardier and trained and was stationed in Amarillo, San Antonio, and San Angelo, Texas.

He married Patti Moellering in 1946 in Houston, TX. Following his service, he and Patti returned to the Michiana area where he and his father founded and operated the Starck Insurance Agency for more than 60 years. Bill has served as President of the Agency since that time.

He was a member of the South Bend Elks Club, Knights of Columbus Santa Maria Council #553, Morris Park Country Club, The University Club of Notre Dame and the Sorin Society, and a member of St. Stanislaus Parish.

Bill was the President of the Moose Krause Chapter of the College Football Hall of Fame and was recognized as a major motivating influence in establishing South Bend as the Halls permanent home.

For more than 30 years, Bill was a Statistician and color commentator with Bill Etherton, Tom Denning and Jack Nolan on Notre Dame Football and Basketball games, as well as area high school football and basketball games and tournaments on WNDU-TV and Radio.

Survivors include his wife Patti; two daughters, Lana (husband Tom) Kingston of Kennebunkport, ME; and Colleen (husband Tom) Ruszkowski of Granger, IN; five grandchildren, Amy (husband Chris) Sakalosky of Dallas, Texas; Adam Kingston of Kennebunkport, Maine; Thaddeus Ruszkowski of Washington, D.C.; Trevor Ruszkowski of Martin, TN; and Jennifer Ruszkowski of Atlanta, GA.
