William J. Smith, 93, of Bethlehem was called home to the lord on December 13, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospice House. Born in Scranton he was the son of the late Louis Carlyle and Cora May (Motzenbacher) Smith. William was the husband of the late Freida Hettie (Potter) Smith and the late Lela M. Kelley-Smith. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Upon completion of his bachelor’s degree from Dennison University in Granville, Ohio William worked as a draftsman for over 30 years at the Bethlehem Steel and later for Atlantic States Cast Iron. William was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem. He had a strong passion for his faith, family and friends along with his love of home remodeling, music and gardening. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the devoted staff at St. Luke’s Hospice House of Saucon Valley as well as Westminster Village where he was a resident.
Survivors: William will be lovingly remembered by his son, Wayne Smith; daughters, Barbara L. Filaseta and Beverly L. Fehnel; sister, Constance “Connie” Lockett; grandchildren, Nolan Beers, Emily Thiel, Jacob Filaseta and Shannon Smith and 5 great grandchildren. William is preceded in death by his brothers, Louis C. Smith and Ronnie P. Smith, Sr.; sister, Lois Kinsley; son, David P. Smith and grandson, Christopher M. Berghold.
