William J. Kammetler, 93, of Bethlehem, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2013, in St. Lukes Hospital in Fountain Hill. He was the husband of Betty M. (Shearer) Kammetler. They celebrated their 63rd anniversary in June. Born in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late John and Teresa (Failer) Kammetler. Bill was a graduate of Liberty High School, class of 1938. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe. He worked for Bethlehem Steel in the Machine Shop and later in the Homer Research Dept. for 42 years retiring in 1982. Bill was a member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bethlehem. He was an avid bowler for Bethlehem Steel Research Bowling League and played softball in the Bethlehem Steel League. Bill coached the Northwest Little League and the 7th Ward Basketball Team. He was a member of the MORA Club and Wanderers Athletic Association. Bill was an avid Yankee and Rangers fan, had a great sense of humor and enjoyed Wednesdays at the Casino. Survivors: his loving family includes, wife, Betty, a son, Robert W. Kammetler and his wife, Debra: daughters, Debbie M. Achenzie and her husband, Charles; and Sandra L. Edelman and her husband, John “Kenny” Higgins; a brother, Robert Kammetler his wife, Mary Jane all of Bethlehem; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Bills brothers, John, Joseph, Julius and Frank Kammetler and sisters, Teresa Maule and Julia Kammetler died earlier.
