Billy McGee said, “I’m bent but not broken.” We’re all broken, but that’s how the light gets in. William J. McGee, Jr.’s light was generous, caring and warm-hearted. He had a good sense of humor and was full of warmth. Bill believed in this world. He was thoughtful of others and spent his life serving and protecting those who filled it. We can see the smoke of a burning home, but who can see a burning heart? Suddenly, on Friday January 20th, 2017 Bill left his home in Maple Shade, at the age of 45, and went on the road to sweet Athy… huroo huroo. Billy, we hardly knew ya!
Bill was born in Riverside, spent his early years growing up in Burlington Twp. and had been a resident of Maple Shade. He graduated from Holy Cross High school in Delran, class of 1989, where he excelled in track and field and had been a longtime member and firefighter volunteering at Beverly Road Fire Co., Station 302, and Hope Fire Company of Burlington City. Bill had contributed to the manpower of our great nation, fighting to uphold the ideals of American Freedoms in the U.S. Navy where he served on the USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) in the Persian Gulf during the Gulf War. Bill was a lifetime member of the Burlington VFW Post 1817. He worked as a police officer in Willingboro for the past 11 years and was a member of the Willingboro F.O.P. Lodge 38. He volunteered his time with his sons in the Greater Trenton Pipes and Drums and was a swim meet official who was part of: the Tarnsfield Swim Club, the Jersey Storm Swim Team and USA Swim Association.
Bill held his faith dear and enjoyed spending time at home listening to metal, Irish punk and classic rock or taking in a movie, especially a Bill Murray movie, with his feline companion Khloe. May your neighbors respect you, troubles neglect you, the angels protect you and Heaven accept you.
Until we meet again, Bill leaves his: mother Diana & her husband Earle Moore of Aiken, SC, his father William J. & his wife Arla McGee, Sr. of Cape May Court House, his sons Jacob and Ryan and their mother Dawn McGee all of Lumberton. He is the brother of Colleen Johnson of Grovetown, GA, Cynthia A. Epps of Martinez, GA, Dave Pullen of NV, William Pullen of Washington D.C., Beth of Australia, cousin Johanna of Willingboro, and dear friend Dawnmarie Baron of Maple Shade.
Give my sins to the devil, my soul to God. Bury my body but not my beliefs, bury my eyes but not my vision and bury my voice but not my message. If, by chance, you wish to remember me, do it with a kind deed or word to someone who needs you.
