William J. Bennett, 86, of Route 2, Box 259, Clarksburg, passed away Friday, January 7, 2011 at United Hospital Center following an extended illness. He was born January 5, 1925 in Adrian the son of the late William C. Bennett and Blanche Cochran Bennett. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Joy L. Bennett whom he married October 12, 1946. In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons; William F. Bennett and wife Lisa of Clarksburg, and Jerry Keith Bennett and wife Paula of Clarksburg and one daughter; Patricia Harding and husband Bob of Jacksonville, Fl; and son-in-law, Joe Nutter of Gypsy; eight grandchildren; Katie Reed and husband Jed , Todd Bennett and Chasity, Destiny Moore and husband Joe and Megan Glass and husband Jeremy, Patrick Jeffers and wife Missy, Michael Jeffers and wife Cindy, Joshua Jeffers and Jennifer Morton and husband Barry and twelve great grandchildren; Abigail, Hannah, Bailee, Brooklynn, Bryce, Brittany, Eli, Emelia, Landon, Dillon, Cameron and Colton. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter; Pamela Nutter and two sisters; Anna Mae Murphy and Helen Hollen and one grandchild. Mr. Bennett was retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co and was a veteran of the United States Navy having served as a Seaman 1st Class from 1943-1945 where he served on the USS North Carolina Battle Ship. Mr. Bennett was also a member of Jewel City Church and loved to hunt.
