William H. VanDerWoude, 83 of the Holiday Heights section of Berkeley peacefully passed away Monday April 7, 2014 with his wife of 56 years at his side after a long battle with Alzheimers Disease at Community Medical Center, Toms River. He was born in Fairlawn, NJ and lived in Little Falls before moving to Toms River 26 years ago.
Mr. VanDerWoude served in the United States Navy during the Korean War, he was a proud member of the American Legion Post 121 and a longtime employeer for Hostess Cakes in Paterson working his way from bakery driver to the Secretary of the Teamsters Union Local 194.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s RC Church, Toms River. He is predeceased by his parents Sam and Anita VanDerWoude and his sister Kathleen Heffernan. Surviving is his wife Edith Vitale VanDerWoude; two daughters Barbara Nazzaro and Jack of Port Monmouth and Laurie Yasenchock and her husband Ken of Tuckerton; his sister Anita White of Mahwah and 4 grandchildren Joseph, Kenny, Christine and Andrew and many nieces and nephews.
