WILLIAM MCKINLEY FRASER, Jr., 85
LAKELAND – William McKinley Fraser, Jr., 85 of Lakeland passed away on February 17, 2013, of natural causes.
He was born March 16, 1927 in Colwyn, PA. After graduating from high school, he served in the Army with the occupation forces in Italy immediately after World War II in 1945-46. The G.I. Bill enabled him to attend Florida Southern College, where he graduated with B.S. and B.A. degrees in Chemistry and English.
Mr. Fraser spent over 40 years in the phosphate industry, both in mining and heavy chemical processing. In later years, he worked for Mobil Mining & Minerals in Illinois, Texas and Mulberry, Florida. He was active in the American Chemical Society, Chamber of Commerce, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Little League Baseball, Paint Your Heart Out and Habitat for Humanity. He and his wife Claire traveled extensively. He played in two golf leagues and had weekly lunches with the “ROMEOs” (Retired Old Men Eating Out), during his 20 retirement years.
Mr. Fraser was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Lakeland native, Claire Bloodworth Fraser; as well as his parents, William M. Fraser and Marcelle LoRee Fraser; paternal grandparents Albert A. and Maggie B. Fraser; and maternal grandparents William H. and Mary Hook LoRee.
Mr. Fraser is survived by his son, General William McKinley Fraser III and his wife Beverly of Scott AFB, IL, and his three daughters, Annette F. Hecker and her husband James of Houston, TX, Yvette C. Neumann and her husband Juergen of Lakeland, FL, and Jeanette F. Goldsberry and her husband Robert of Rusk, TX. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
