Jr passed away at Fayetteville, TN hospital after an excruciating battle of stage 4 prostate cancer. His strong aspiration to live was very inspiring. Up until a week before his death he would say, “I’m not ready to check out yet.” But in the last week he said, “I’m tired and ready to leave.” HIs constant strength was admirable. I honestly believe his stubbornness gave him a strong will to survive and live as long as he did. He had an enduring love for his wife and did not want to leave her alone. He was proud of many things in his life. Most of all, his only son, Billy. He spoke of the many things he taught him in life and mostly enjoyed their fishing adventures. He was very proud of being a grandfather and having 3 grandsons. Jr spoke most of often of his daddy Billy Staggs. He admired him so much, he named his son after him. He had a BIG love for music. His favorite bands were ACDC, Led Zeppelin, 38 Special, Hank Williams Jr, and his favorite song was Lynyrd Skynyrd ‘Free Bird’. He loved to tell stories about all of the concerts he had been to. He loved old cars and tinkering with them. Jr was a land surveyor by trade. He also had a love for watches of every kind, he would get on Ebay and get the highest bid on them just to give them away. Jr could grow anything, he had a green thumb. His last request was not to be buried but to be cremated so that his son, Billy, would take some of his ashes to their favorite fishing hole, and for Tracy (his sister) to take some with her to Panama City Beach where every childhood summer was spent together as a family. Jr will be honored at a memorial on Friday, October 21, 2022 from 6-8pm at Ardmore Senior Center, 29920 Park Avenue Ardmore, AL.
