William Eugene Spain
1925 – 2013
William Eugene Spain passed away peacefully November 29, 2013 at Fort Walton Medical Center. Bill was born in Benevola, Alabama, the son of William Preston Spain and Eula Winston Spain. Bill joined the U.S. Navy after High School and served in World War II and the Korean War. He attended the University of Alabama majoring in Commerce and Business.
After leaving the Navy, Bill was employed by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. as regional
Budget Manager and progressed to territory manager in the Southeastern States. He left Goodyear to become a partner in Auto Sav Tire group which grew to 28 retail stores in five states. Auto-Sav was sold to Alfa Insurance.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Preston and Eula Spain, brothers, Phillip, Robert, J.W., Boyd Spain, sisters, Jeanette O’Brian and Louise Oglesby.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Hazel Spain, son, William Randall Spain, daughter -in-law, Connie Spain, grandson, Randall Spain, granddaughter, Ashley Spain Cook and husband K.C. Cook, great- grandchild, Conner Cook, as well as sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
The family extends love and appreciation to his caregivers, Flora Mae Bogan, Markee King, Christine Isom for their loyalty, kindness and caring.
