William E. Powell, Jr., died March 24, 2024. A native of Suffolk, he was the son of the late Wells H. and William E. Powell, Sr. He was predeceased by his brother J. Braxton Powell and his son-in-law Alan Hines.Bill was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church where he enjoyed doing repair work for the Day Care and showing the children what he was fixing. He was a longtime member of the Suffolk Elks Lodge #685 and served in the National Guard. He retired from VEPCO (Dominion Virginia Power) in 1994 after thirty-two years of service in the engineering department.He is survived by his wife Roberta B. Powell; his son, William E. Powell III and wife Alexandria; daughter Blair P. Hines; grandchildren Elizabeth P. Helms and husband Tommy, Taylor F. Creed and husband Kyle, John Bott Powell, C.A. Houston Hines, Jr., Jacob Oliver Hines; great grandchildren Samantha Helms, Blair Creed, and Charlotte Creed; sister-in-law Judy Powell; two nieces; two great nieces and two great nephews.
