William Donald Garletts

William D. Garletts, 90, of Tunnelton died Sunday, July 31,2016 at Preston Memorial Hospital.

He was born November 3, 1925, in Connellsville, PA the son of the late Smith and Florence Davis Garletts.

Donald was a loving father, grandfather and brother. He served in the US Army during WWII with the 82nd Air Bourne, 508th PIR. He jumped into Holland on September 17, 1944 and was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. Donald was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart and was a member of Col. Rowen VFW Post 2345 in Tunnelton. He worked as a coal miner, attended the Howesville United Methodist Church, enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching sports and building mussel loaders.

He is survived by his two sons, Randy Garletts and wife, Peggy of Bruceton Mills and Rickie Garletts and wife, Judy of Orlando, FL; a daughter, Diane Knotts and husband, Ralph of Tunnelton; two brothers, Arthur Garletts and Earle (Buck) Garletts; five sisters, Helen, Olive, Florence, Margaret (Joyce) and Jeanie; six grandchildren, Tracey Duque and husband, Juan, Derek Garletts and wife, Katy, Kiki Garletts, Ralph Knotts, Jr., Sarah Knotts and Noah Knotts and one great grandson, Daryon Garletts.

He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Veronica June Hahn Garletts in 2011, a brother, James and a sister, Dorothy.
