William “Bill” D. Brown, 73, of Jacksonville, IL died Friday, Dec. 17, 2021, at his home.

He was born Feb. 5, 1948, in Jacksonville, the son of William E. and Delores Neff Brown. He married Krista Crouch on Nov. 6, 1982, and they later divorced.

He is survived by his mother, Delores Brown of Decatur; one son, Brad (Betsy) Brown of Franklin; two grandsons, Brayden and Brycen Brown, both of Franklin; and five brothers and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his father, William Earl Brown; one grandson, Brody Earl Brown; and one brother, Gary Brown.

Bill grew up in Scott County and was a graduate of Meredosia High School. He served in the Vietnam War with the United States Army from 1968 to 1970. He had worked on the family farm and also worked for Browning Home Improvement before starting his own painting business, Brown’s Agri Painting.

He attended Westfair Church. He loved history and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Bears and college basketball, and especially enjoyed following the Fighting Illini. Bill enjoyed going to coffee with the guys and teasing the waitresses. He liked drives to the boat in Alton and loved classic county music.
