William D. “Bill” Snow 76, beloved husband of 39 years to Susan A. (Sessions) Snow of Manchester, passed away peacefully at Touchpoints at Manchester after a long battle with pancreatic cancer on Saturday, May 14, 2016 surrounded by family. He was born April 12, 1940 in Boston, MA, son of the late Phyllis (Webb) Snow and Virgil E. Snow. Bill grew up in Brookline, MA just outside of Boston. He described his early life as “uneventful”, but from his earliest years, he remembered World War II, where rationing and shortages of goods were commonplace. “I almost never had ice cream as a kid” he said. But it wasn’t all grim he added, his “neighborhood in Brookline has lots of kids to play with”. One of Bill’s favorite childhood memories involves and act of profound generosity. When Bill was about 9 years old, he wanted to play baseball with the school team. His parents were poor and couldn’t afford a glove. His brother Dick (10 years his senior) had just finished high school and was working for a men’s clothing store in downtown Boston. With what little money he had, Bill’s big brother bought him a new baseball glove. That gesture never left Bill’s mind still after all these years. Bill graduated from Brookline High School in 1958. He played trombone in the high school band. During high school, as a Massachusetts state officer in the Methodist Youth Fellowship, Bill gave serious consideration to going into the ministry, but decided on undergrad work at Boston University (BU) instead. While studying psychology and philosophy at BU, his world view began to change. He pledged Tau Kappa Epsilon because, at that time, it was the only fraternity at BU without racial or religious requirement. He graduated in 1962 with a Bachelor’s degree in psychology and was the first of his family to earn a college diploma. In 1977, Bill met the love of his life, Susan (Sessions) Lamson, who had two daughters, Amy and Cheryl. With Bill’s three son’s and Suzie’s daughters, it was like having the Brady Bunch around. One big blended family.
