William Cauley died peacefully on September 28, 2019 at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Born on January 18, 1924, in Holyoke, Ma. to the late Patrick and Catherine (Meenaghan), Cauley. He was a graduate of Holyoke High School and lettered in baseball and basketball . After high school he was drafted into the army during World War II and served in Ireland, England, Germany, Luxemburg, and Paris, France, during its liberation.  He was honorably discharged in 1945 and returned home to Holyoke where he married  his high school sweetheart, Irene Hart.  He worked for the Holyoke Gas & Electric as a meter  reader and for years bartended at the Shine Inn, the Riverboat, and finally the Wyckoff Country Club, he retired from bartending at the age of 85.  “Bill” was everyone’s favorite bartender!  He had a great passion for sports which he passed along to his 4 children.  The Red Sox were his favorite team and he was one of a very few people who saw Ted Williams, who was known as a great hitter, actually pitch in a game at Fenway Park!  He is survived by his daughters, Sharyn Blagoyevic,  Catherine Gallagher and her husband, Tim,  son,  Mitchell Cauley and his wife,  Christine.  He had 11 grandchildren, Tara, Ryan, Sarah, Nicholas, Kelly, Kristin, Eve, Katherine, Sara, Cindy and Mary, he also had eight great grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his brother, John, sisters; Marion, Kay , and Anna, his son-in-law, Obrad, his son, Patrick, and his loving wife of 50 years,  Irene (Hart).  The family would like to thank the Holyoke Soldiers Home and Sarawood Assisted Living for the loving care given to our father these past couple years. He was a wonderful, caring, husband and father, he will be missed by all.
