William Thomas Blalock, age 87, of Salisbury, N.C., died Saturday, July 25, 2009, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, N.C. Blalock was employed by the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Cradock United Methodist Church in Portsmouth, Va. for 48 years. Most recently he was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Salisbury but spent his early years at Randall United Methodist Church in Norwood. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was an Ex POW of WWII. He was Chapter Commander of the Hampton Roads POW chapter. In addition to working at the Norfolk Naval shipyard as an electrician, he worked with Virginia Power for 21 years. Military honors will be conducted by Stanly County DAV Chapter 12 Ritual Team. He served in the Army during World War II. He was the son of the late Walter Black Blalock and the late Esther Mae Kirk Blalock. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Frank,Orville and Billy and sister, Lillie Mae Eudy. He is survived by his wife Virginia Estelle Poplin Blalock of the home; Son-Barry Blalock of Salisbury, N.C. Son-Thomas Warren Blalock and wife Lisa of Savannah, Ga. Sister-Mary Lilly of Norwood, N.C. Sister in law-Martha Russell of Albemarle Brother-Calvin Blalock and wife Dot of Shelby, N.C. Grandchildren-J.T.
