William “Bill” J. James 88 of Rosedale passed away on Oct 18, 2013 at 4:20pm in Indiana University Hospital Martinsville. He was the second of five children born on Dec 10, 1924 to George & Glenna James. As he grew, he and his family found themselves in the midst of the great depression. At age 15, he left Terre Haute for Indianapolis to seek work to help support his family. He served as a sergeant in the United States Army Airforces Corp of Engineers from 1942-1945. He was stationed in the South Pacific.

Bill was a hard worker and mechanically seavy. He was also creative and inventive. He and his wife Martha not only built their home in the country but Bill spent almost 5 years rebuilding and recovering an antique airplane, his pride and joy. He enjoyed planting things and was known for his green thumb. After retiring from Sears Roebuck & Co., after 38 years he kept busy remodeling cars, tried his hand at baking, continued to garden and grew the biggest blueberries around. Out of which, came some of the best wine blueberries could produce. He enjoyed life. All he accomplished and enjoyed would take up more space then is afforded here. He never knew the word quit.

He had a great sense of humor and quick wit. He’ll forever be remember for his smile and deep dimples. Even when he learned he had Alzheimer’s disease in 2004, he took the news well. He grew closer to his Lord Jesus. One could find him or any given day pouring over the Bible and praying. He surived the depression, WWII and open heart surgey, but lost his battle with Alzeheimer’s. Nancy Reagan put it so well “It’s the long goodbye”

He survived by his wife Martha, their four children, 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
