Bill passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2012 in Lincoln, NE, at the age of 79 years, 9 months and 10 days. He was born on January 11, 1933, in Dwight, NE, to Louis & Bessie (Hottovy) Tomes. Bill was one of 10 children. He graduated from Utica High School in 1949. Bill served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict beginning in March 1953 and was honorably discharged March 1955. He was united in marriage to Bette Codr, April 14, 1956. From this union came 5 children. Bill was a lifelong farmer and Pioneer Seed Corn Dealer. He was also known for his well witching that continued until his death. He was still very active with helping his sons, either in the fields or making deliveries. Bill & Bette traveled the world and became friends to so many. He enjoyed playing cards with their many friends. Bill was famous for his peanut brittle which he shared with so many people. He enjoyed dancing and listening to polka music and enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s activities. Bill was well known for his “computer” as he had quite the memory. Bill was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church (past trustee), Knights of Columbus (4th Degree), American Legion Post 49, Elks Lodge #1024, Disabled American Veterans, Seward VFW Post #4755, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Pink Sisters Auxiliary. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Raphael, Reynold, Lewis, Henry, Lee, Ernie & Don Tomes. Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years Bette, children; Patrick (Loretta) Tomes of Dallas, TX, William D (Patricia) of Utica, NE, Bonnie (Ted) Balistreri of Austin, TX, Peggy (Mike) Pankoke of Beaver Crossing, NE, Ronald (Deb) Tomes of Utica, NE; 16 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sister Rita Cox of Chicago, IL; brother Ben Tomes of Lincoln, NE; many nieces and nephews.
