William "Bill" Beazell

William “Bill” Beazell, 91, of Clovis, NM, passed away Wednesday January 7th. Bill was born in Pittsburgh, PA on May 30, 1923 to William and Harriet Beazell. He graduated from Chautauqua Central School in Chautauqua, NY in 1939. He then attended Alfred University, located in Alfred, NY. While at Alfred he was a star on the tennis team.

In 1943 he was drafted into the US Army and served in the 20th Armored Division, under General Patton. He served in France and Germany before being discharged in 1946.

He then returned to Alfred University graduating with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry in 1949. He then began a 42 year career in the Flat Glass industry working for several different companies. He worked in or traveled to Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, the Philippines, China, and Great Britain, during his career. He was living and working in Kingsport, TN when he retired from AGC Flat Glass.

Bill was a long time member of the Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church in Kingsport, TN. He was recently recognized by the Church for 45 years of service in the choir. He was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ.

Bill was an avid fisherman and a longtime member of Trout Unlimited. He was also an avid environmentalist and worked on different area lake and river clean ups on the Holston River and Lake Watauga. Trout Unlimited has renamed its annual clean-up of Lake Watauga as the William Beazell Memorial Lake Watauga Clean-up.

On April 16, 2006, he married Norma Mitchell in Jamestown, NY. They resided in Kingsport, TN until moving to NM in November of 2014.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane Beazell; his sister, Mary Katheryn Beazell; and his parents.

Bill is survived by his wife, Norma, of Clovis, NM; stepsons, Garrett (Patty) Mitchell of Clovis, NM and Tom (Dorothy) Mitchell of Thornton, Co.; 2 grandchildren, Kris (Jose) Arguello of Clovis, NM, Kevin (Jinjer) Mitchell of Canyon, TX; 5 great grandchildren; and cousins Kate Richards and Mary Ellen Kennedy of Charlotte, NC.
