William F. Sweeney, Sr., of Burlington Township, died Thursday, October 16th, at Virtua-Mt. Holly Rehabilitation Center in Lumberton at the age of 86. Born in Burlington on April 27, 1922 he was the son of the late Joseph and Sarah Sweeney. A lifetime area resident he had worked as a carpenter for over 50 years before retiring in 1986.
A former member of the Burlington Elks Lodge, he served his country honorably in the United States Navy during World War II. Brother of the late Caroline Sweeney Wendler, he is survived by his wife of 58 years; Phyllis (nee Baratta) Sweeney, his daughter: Patricia Triplett of Medford, NJ., his son; William F. Sweeney, Jr., of Medford Lakes, his two grandchildren: Ty Triplett and Tom Sweeney as well as his nephew John Wendler. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial, Monday, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Paul’s R.C. Church, E. Union St., Burlington. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Jacksonville Rd., Burlington.
