Wesley Leon Ervin, 53, Riverdale Utah died unexpectedly in his home on Monday, December 6, 2021. Born October 29, 1968 in Clearfield at Hill Air Force Base the son of Ada Lee (Long) Gillis and Willie Lee Ervin.
Wes attended Ben Lomond High where he excelled in academics as well as sports. The Scot’s played for two state championships and won the basketball title in 1987 which was the first in school history. He went on to school at Georgetown University, then later attended school at Stevens Henager College where he met Patrice Bendixsen. Wes and Patrice married on March 25, 1995 in Ogden, Utah. Together they had 6 children, Royle (Chrishell) Hubbart, Natasha (Tyler) Davis, Marissa Ervin, Karlie Ervin, Jaymen Ervin, and Lauryn Ervin.
Wes was a member of the Church of God in Christ where he was in the choir and played the drums. He followed in his stepfather’s footsteps working in nursing homes where he developed a love of cooking that continued throughout his lifetime. He enjoyed cooking and loved hosting BBQs and family dinners. In 1995 he became a Peace Officer and worked in Corrections until he was hired as a police officer with Layton City. He was a proud member of the Davis County S.W.A.T team for several years. Wes served his community for 18 years. At the time of his death, he was working for Autoliv.
He was well known in the community as a coach of his children’s baseball, basketball, and football teams, he then continued his love of coaching with his grandsons. He enjoyed spending time teaching kids about good sportsmanship, the love of the game and how to have fun, often teaching his teams to “clap it out.” Wes loved spending time with his grandkids, Mason, Grant, Audrie and Oakland, but in his spare time, he could be found listening to Bob Marley or watching his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers.
Wes is survived by his wife, Patrice Bendixsen; his mother Ada Lee Gillis; 6 children; 4 Grandchildren; Sister Nicole (Chris) Ervin-Whittington, brothers; Barry (Christi) Gillis Jr., Anthony Long Jr. He is preceded in death by his father Willie Lee Ervin, Stepfather, Barry Lee Gillis, Sr., and his brother, Stephen Lyn Ervin Sr.
