Wendy Ellen Fowkes Sather

Wendy Ellen Fowkes Sather left her earthly home on Saturday, February 13th, 2016 (born July 16, 1946). Right now she is most likely reliving her favorite childhood times: teaching swimming lessons, climbing avocado trees, riding horses, or biking all over the neighborhood with her friends. Wendy’s fond childhood memories involve her family. There were Sunday swimming/barbequing with her parents, John and Helen Jean Culbertson Fowkes, and her siblings, Randall, Jimmy (Doug), and Louise, at the Say Road house (in Santa Paula, CA) or fishing at Huntington Lake. In Santa Paula, Wendy attended McKevett Elementary/Middle School and Santa Paula Union High School.

As a young adult, Wendy had life-impacting experiences as an exchange student and hosting exchange students. Wendy attended University of California, Berkley, University of Lund (Sweden), and University of California, Santa Barbara, where she graduated with a B.A. in Sociology (1968) and fell in love with and married Lee Sather (August 17, 1968). Wendy earned her Graduate Teaching Certificate at University of California, Santa Barbara (1969) and as a nontraditional student at Weber State University received her R.N. Degree (1978) with two children at home.

Wendy lived with Lee in Ogden, Utah and raised their three children, John, Kate and Brittanie, of whom Wendy was always very proud. The family’s adventures saw them living in Norway for a year, where Wendy worked in a Norwegian hospital, making lifelong friends and seeing her kids become “Norwegian.” Wendy was a constant spectator at every game, dance competition, and school event, no matter the quality of the performance.

Wendy’s career consisted of 25 years at McKay Dee Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care unit, flying around as Manager of Neonatal Life Flight, researching for Emergen Genetic Research Project for Dr. Bryan Ohiro and as a Clinical Trial Nurse for Dr. Jack Wahlen. Wendy also, somehow, found time to be a member of the Ogden (Chapter P) of P.E.O.
