Welter Dimond, 94, of 2900 Independence Dr. Peru died July 14, 2015 in Illinois Valley Community Hospital.

Mr. Dimond was born on December 30, 1920 in La Salle to Edward and Mary (Welter) Dimond. He married his beloved wife Inez Coffeit in San Jose California, and until Inez’s death in 2006, they were inseparable, enjoying 67 years of happiness together. An Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Dimond served in the Philippines and Japan. Throughout his career, he and his wife Inez owned and operated a variety of small restaurants in the San Jose and Santa Cruz, CA area. After retiring from business, he accepted a post as Executive Maintenance Consultant at Parkway Child Development Center in San Jose, CA. In 2007, Welter returned to the Illinois Valley. He resided in the Villa of North Peru where he made many new friends. He enjoyed playing cards with members of the community including his special friend, Thelma Johnson. He was a member of the Oglesby Elk’s.

He is survived by nieces and nephews, Mary Jo (Joseph) Kotecki of Peru, Donna (William) Ficek of Butternut, WI, June Whalen of Peoria, and Charles (Diane) Dimond of Vail, AZ.

Shirley Bozina of Bakersfield, CA, Robert (Carmela) Bozina of San Francisco, CA; plus many great nieces and nephews all of whom loved him very much.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters; his niece and live-in caretaker, Norma J.
