The life of Wayne Archie Sims

Wayne was born on November 10, 1933 to Archie Sims and Leone Hodges Sims in Mantua, Utah. As a child he was very creative and curious. He enjoyed climbing to the top of the tall pine tree, terrifying his mother as he swung back and forth. He enjoyed raising his pet deer “Jim”, he built a non-flying airplane, and he enjoyed working side by side with his dad doing handyman work and loved playing creative and imaginative games with his mom. In 4th grade he developed his love for music and playing the drums, resulting in a 2 year music scholarship to Utah State University (USU). He loved tinkering with electronics; he built and operated the first and only radio station in Mantua, Utah which broadcast 1.5 miles.

Wayne served a mission in the Eastern States (which included Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and the DC area) for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints. During his mission he participated in the Mormon Pageant in Palmyra, New York on Hill Cumorah and was blessed to have borne his testimony in the Scared Grove. His mission helped to build a stronger testimony and love of the Gospel.

Wayne served honorably in the Air Force Reserves while he attended and graduated with a teaching degree from USU.

Wayne married Jeanette Petersen in the Logan, Utah Temple on May 22, 1958. Together they had 10 children; Michael Sims, Lorrie Hansen, Russell Sims, Rodney Sims, Kenneth Sims, Douglas Sims, Pamela Letcher, Daniel Sims, Christopher Sims, and Denise Freeland. They divorced in 1984 and remained friends. Wayne married Edna lung in 1984, they divorced, but have remained friends. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, son Daniel, and many other loved ones. Wayne was married to Laura Middleton for a short period of time
Wayne loved his career as a teacher for over 31 years, he taught most of the time in the Weber County School District. In addition to his regular teaching job, he taught in several adult education settings including the Weber County Jail where helped many achieve the goal of earning their high school diplomas. He retired in 1990, the last 11 years of his career he was the “Teacher/Counselor” for the Teenager Behavioral Adjustment Unit at Canyon View School in Ogden. During his career he served in other volunteer leadership roles such as: President of the Weber County School teachers Association, he was actively involved in the Utah Education Association (UEA), President of the Utah State Resource Teachers, and served as the PTA President in one of the school where he taught.
