Wayne A. Grose

Wayne A. Grose, 93, of Harrisville, passed away on April 3, 2016. Born Oct. 14, 1922, in Riverdale to James A. and Blanche Patterson Grose, he grew up in Ogden. He graduated from Ogden High School and Weber State College. He married Mary Etta White on Sept. 17, 1942, in Ogden. Their vows were later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. She died in 2003, and he has continued to live in Ogden and Harrisville.

He joined the Army during World War II, serving in the European Theater. He returned to find work at Hill Air Force Base. After retiring from HAFB he taught math at Ben Lomond High School. Following a second retirement, he served as a bishop, and he and his “Little Mary Ann” served LDS missions in ConcepciAn, Chile, and the Pennsylvania Philadelphia Spanish-speaking Mission.

He wore out three bread machines and was baking bread for family and friends up until a few days before he passed away. In earlier years he kept himself busy as a beekeeper, woodworker, gardener, orchardist and family historiana€”and as a beloved father. He served for 20 years as an ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple. He indexed or arbitrated 367, 694 names.

His seven children and spouses are Kathleen (Jack) Arrington, Alan (deceased; wife Sandy and her present husband, Phil Brueck), Elaine (Russell) Seaman, Dale (Becky) Grose, Dena Grose, David (Julie) Grose, and Scott (Amber) Grose. He has 27 grandchildren and 57 great-grandchildren. He and Mary were also “parents” to many who took up residence at the Grose home and are counted as “acorns” on the family tree. Oh, how we will miss him!
