Ward C. Petefish, 84 years, of rural Ashland, IL died Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville, IL.

He was born June 7, 1923 in Literberry, IL; the son of Jesse L. and Jean Caldwell Petefish. He married Marcella Pauline Hinman on February 2, 1945 in Ashland, IL and she preceded in death on December 25, 1981.

He is survived by a daughter, Doris J. Gregory (husband, Keith) of Ashland; four sons, J. Alan Petefish (wife, Vicky) of Festus, MO, Donald J. Petefish (wife, Jennifer) of Ashland, Ronald R. Petefish (wife, Debra) of Ashland, and Bradley E. Petefish of Ashland; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a brother, Richard L. Petefish Sr. (wife, Sharon) of Champaign; two sisters, Lois Yancy (husband, Albert) of Springfield and Mary Lou Newell (husband, Bob) of St. Louis; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Sara Allen (surviving husband, Raymond of Springfield); and a niece.

Mr. Petefish was a 1940 graduate of Ashland High School and a grain and livestock farmer in the Ashland area for many years. He was a member of Berea Christian Church where he served as Deacon Emeritus. He formerly served on the Ashland School Board and as a 4-H leader for many years. He enjoyed fishing and watching his family participate in local sporting events, but his greatest joy came from spoiling his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
