Wanda Mae Senior, 84, of Flagstaff died Thursday, July 19, 2007, at the Peaks after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Senior was born December 14, 1922, in El Paso, TX, the seventh child of John Howard and Carmelita Spilsbury Jester.
The family moved to southern California where she attended school. She came to Flagstaff in 1943 to attend what was the Arizona State College, now NAU, where she graduated. While there she met her first husband, Robert C. Euler. After their divorce in 1963, she remained in Flagstaff to raise their two children, Dorothy Ann and William. She had learned to ski at the fledgling Arizona Snow Bowl in the 1940s and later taught skiing there. Mrs. Senior also worked for many years at Laughlin’s Flower shop while continuing further education towards a second degree at NAU. Mrs. Senior met her second husband, Howard R. Senior in Flagstaff and they were married in 1969. They eventually opened the first Baskin-Robbins ice cream store in Flagstaff in 1973 and she and Howard ran this business for 25 years. Wanda was known for her beautifully decorated ice cream cakes and brought joy to many with her creations. Mrs. Senior was an avid bowler and enjoyed many treasured friendships she formed through this hobby. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and steadfastly remained loyal to her pioneer heritage which dated back to the church’s founding. The loves of her life were her children grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was devoted to them and brought much love, strength, and happiness to each of their lives.
Mrs. Senior is survived by her children Dorothy “Dottie” Harkey and William “Bill” Euler of Flagstaff; three grandsons Ryan (Janna) Harkey of Herndon, VA, Evan (Kristi) Harkey of Sparks, NV and Jason Euler of Flagstaff; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers and sisters and her husband, Howard.
