Wanda Dunmire Burton, 94, of Meredosia, died Sunday, May 12, 2013, at her residence. She was born Aug. 25, 1918, in rural Oxville, the daughter of Joseph and Lillie Davis Bunch. She married Billy Burton on Dec. 22, 2001, in Meredosia and he preceded her in death on Nov. 30, 2006.
She is survived by two daughters, Mildean (Harold) DeWitt of Versailles and Audrey (Gary) Fanshier of Meredosia; one step-son, Terry (Cathy) Burton of Virginia; fifteen grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; and thirty great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her longtime companion, Francis H. Surratt; daughter, Betty M. Allen; granddaughter, Rebecca Midiri; great-grandson, Timothy David Ritter; four brothers, Cleo, Rube, Clarence (surviving wife Rosalie of Meredosia), and Clifford Bunch; and three sisters, Opal Rausch, Helen Buhlig and Mary Jane Bunch.
Mrs. Burton retired after more than 25 years of service as Director of Housekeeping at Illinois School for the Deaf. She was a member of Idelle Rebekah Lodge of Versailles. Wanda was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, and enjoyed Bingo and going to the boat. She especially loved “get-togethers” with her family and friends.
