Walter L. “Walt” Lamps, 98, of Peru, went to be with the Lord March 22, 2015 at Manor Court in Peru.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Mueller Funeral Home in Peru with Rev. Kay Harding, pastor of Zion United Church of Christ, Peru officiating. Burial will follow in Peru City Cemetery. Visitation will be 9-10:00 AM Saturday in the funeral home.
Walter was born September 23, 1916 to Louis and Matilda (Toedter) Lamps, on the farm North of Peru where he grew up. He rode a horse to a one room school house on the Plank Road and later attended LaSalle-Peru High School, where he met the love of his life and wife of more than 74 years, Helen Stauch. They were married on November 8, 1940 in Peru. Walter farmed in Dimmick Township for over 60 years and was a member of the Illinois Farm Bureau. Walt & Helen enjoyed many happy years together, raising their two sons, David & John, dancing at the Mendota Elks, playing Euchre and Bridge, plus picnicking with friends and family, hunting, fishing in Minnesota and vacationing in Antioch, IL. Walt was a member and past president of the Dimmick School Board. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ where he served as a council member for many years and was active in the Wedding Band. He was loved by his family and admired by many friends and acquaintances for his good-natured, generous personality and his easy going, positive attitude. Survivors include his wife, Helen; two sons, David (Bridget) and John (Mary) Lamps both of LaSalle; five grandchildren, Christa (Erik Danysh), T.J., Jereme, Chris and Katie Lamps; one great-granddaughter, Brook Lynn Danysh and two nieces, Mazie (Sam) Ruzic and Marlene Hurr.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Judith Lyn in infancy and his sister, Ruth Halm. Pallbearers will be T.J., Jereme and Chris Lamps, Andre and Miles Hurr, Chris Ruzic and Erik Danysh.
