Walter Von Matt, age 85, of Lee Center, NY, passed away January 12, 2015 at Sunset Nursing Home in Boonville.

He was born on May 19, 1929 in Rome; a son of Adolph and Rosalie Anken Von Matt. Walter was very proud of his Swiss heritage and made several trips to visit his relatives in Stans, Switzerland, where his father, Adolph, was born.

On January 7, 1950, he married Clara L. Rumble at St. Mary’s Church in Rome, a blessed union of over 51 years. Walter and Clara owned and operated Maple Lane Farms, Inc. of Lee Center for over 40 years, before turning it over to their sons, William (Bill) and Theodore (Ted) in the 1990’s.

Walter and Clara enjoyed snowmobiling with their friends and winter travels to Florida with their camper. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Lee Center, serving as a past trustee, and the Lee Unity Senior Citizens. He also was a past director of Rome Agway.

Walter is survived by two sons and their wives, William and Christine Von Matt, and Theodore and Diana Von Matt; two daughters and their husbands, Lynda and John Wood, and Susan and Frank Davis, all of Lee Center; ten grandchildren, David, Tamara, Julianne, Jason, Heidi, Jared, Tim, Jennifer, Clifton, and Jessica; 17 great, grandchildren; and a brother in law, Ronald Young. He was predeceased by his wife, Clara, on July 27, 2001, and a sister, Elizabeth Young.
